Bucks County U16 experienced a real treat on Sunday the 23rd, travelling to Premiership Rugby Worcester Warriors home ground, Six Ways Stadium in Worcester.
A double header set of games vs. North Mids and Warwickshire in the stadium on Worcester's AGP premiership pitch. Fielding 2 separate teams for the 2 40 mins games, everybody was excited with the opportunity.
They day started well, with an indoor warm up session next to the pitch with doors leading straight out into the stadium:
1st game was vs. North Mids. Bucks got off to a good start vs. a larger North Mids, holding our own and playing some really good rugby. The pack lead from the front, we defended well across the line and play some great attacking rugby, reading opportunities and threats and executing some impressive heads up decisions.
North Mids played with patience and direct drive and ultimately ran out 7 tires for 4 winners.
The 2nd 40 minute match was vs. Warwickshire.
Again the team started strong and held our own. It was a close run thing, effected by a couple of injuries and players retiring with cramp. Warwickshire running out winners 3 tries to 1.
What was most impressive was the quality of rugby played by the lads.. The coaches and manages were all impressed with the application of the lads and more importantly everybody was a rugby player, reading the game, making their own decision, for good or bad, and applying their own skill and approach.
Exactly the goal of the county programme, help the lads improve, understand the game, read and make decision, expressing their own games.
Thanks for the lads, parents and the coaching/mgt team for all the hard work and support this season.
Rgds
